A HAWK FLIES HOME

The 99-year-old ketch Hawk sails back to Melbourne yesterday after an absence of many years. The Hawks was one of the last pilot schooners to operate from Port Phillip Heads, giving way to a steam yacht in 1903. The oldest sail trader still operating in the southern Pacific, the Hawk was welcomed by the Maritime Trust, which hopes to see the vessel preserved at Williamstown.
